Victoria Tower Gardens

The Buxton Memorial

also called the (abolition of) slavery monument.
It commemorates MP Thomas Fowell Buxton
who campaigned against slavery in parliament and
helped to found the
British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society.

The monument was first situated
at the edge of Parliament Square
by Buxton's son in 1865.
In 1957 is was moved to its present place.

In the gardens is an interesting playground.
Children can play
with the wonderful horse heads,
a clear sounding bell,
and other items.







The gardens look out at the Thames.
